QualityWings Status Update (3Q2014)

QWingsSim

QualityWings have posted a newsy update on their Facebook page to let everyone know what’s happening on their two highly anticipated projects under way at present. The 787 and their 737 Class (courtesy of the Enigma team joining them). As an AirNZ fan I’m super excited about both these models. The 787 given its just entered service in New Zealand (and with Jetstar in Aussie) but also as the Classic has been operated on both sides of the Tasman for so long and this model looks like its gonna beat the pants of the only other payware level competition from FeelThere/Wilco.

We hope you all have enjoyed your last few months as much as we have. Summertime is a great time to spend with your families and friends, and we are no different here. As the season starts to change for most of us here at QualityWings from the summer to the fall and as we exit this 3rd quarter…it’s time to provide our update on all things QualityWings.

Dovetail Games’ Licensing Deal With Microsoft Takes Flight

DoveTail

Well I guess I couldn’t not post something about this story, even if it really is splattered all over the simming communities so be surprised if you don’t know about it already. After a couple of months of speculation it turns out the mystery licensee of the MS Flight platform is DoveTail, the creators of Train Simulator. Going to be interesting to see if there are any practical synergies between the two platforms or if it’s more of an investment thing where they essentially market them as two completely separate products. Either way you’d have to say it’s a positive thing for the community to see a little life breathed back into Flight. Also of interest is their agreement to distribute FSX via Steam so going to be some pretty interesting DLC options on the horizon I expect…

The award-winning creators of the best-selling Train Simulator franchise have today announced a global licensing deal with Microsoft, granting them the rights to develop and publish all-new flight products based on Microsoft’s genre-defining flight technology. The company is currently investigating new concepts in this area and is expecting to bring a release to market in 2015.

In addition to this licensing agreement, Dovetail Games is pleased to announce that it has also acquired the rights to distribute the multi-award winning Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Gold Edition via Valve’s popular digital retail channel, Steam

1,500th 747 comes off the production line

B747-1500

Wow, you gotta be impressed about this much heavy iron being pumped out of one company. The 747 has been around for a long time now but she still looks as impressive when you see one as the first time you every caught site of a jumbo.

Boeing has delivered the 1,500th 747 to come off the production line to Frankfurt, Germany-based Lufthansa. The milestone airplane is a 747-8 Intercontinental, the 14th one that Lufthansa will incorporate into its long-haul fleet. “Reaching this milestone delivery is a testament to the capabilities of the airplane and our commitment to continuous innovation,” said Eric Lindblad, 747 vice president and general manager, Boeing Commercial Airplanes

As much as I love the aircraft for some reason I just never got around to buying the payware PMDG model, just don’t seem to fly that many long haul legs, which I guess is strange for a Pacific simmer as we have plenty of long haul options :)
